Virginia DOE Announces 2012 National Blue Ribbon Schools

The Virginia Department of Education announced Friday, September 7th the names of seven Virginia Schools that are recognized as the 2012 National Blue Ribbon Schools. Among the schools receiving this prestigious recognition are two high schools:

Grundy High School, Buchanan Division, Mrs. Leslie Horn-Principal

West Point High School, Town of  West Point Division, Mr. Mark Dorsey-Principal

Congratulations to these two high school principals and members of VASSP.

The National Blue Ribbon Schools are selected based on student performance on national standardized tests or as schools with at least 40 percent of students from disadvantaged backgrounds that raise achievement as measured by state assessments or national standardized tests.

Dr. Patricia I. Wright, Superintendent of Public Instruction, congratulated all recipients by stating ” Each of these schools is at the center of a community where parents, students, teachers, the principal and everyone else in the school – from the office staff to the bus drivers – share high expectations for learning and achievement.”
