A new set of professional development courses in mathematics grades K-12 and On-Line Instruction will be made available this fall for Virginia classroom teachers. Three mathematics courses were developed by Virginia teachers as a part of the Innovative Learning Teams project that began in November 2013. An additional course has been developed for teachers interested in learning how to teach in online environments.
The mathematics courses will focus on three strands: Patterns, Functions and Algebra; Probability and Statistics ; and Numbers and Numbers Sense. The courses have been developed to help teachers who may have gaps in their mathematics knowledge or may want to experiment with new ways of teaching that integrates technology.
The fourth course, Online Teaching for the Face-to-Face Teacher will focus on introducing traditional teachers to the techniques and skills needed to become an online teacher. It is a self-paced course with tasks the teachers can do to practice newly learned skills.
