Early in February, the Executive Directors of the Virginia Association of Secondary School Principals (VASSP) and the Virginia Association of Elementary School Principals (VAESP) collaborated on a document to present to Virginia Senators Mark Warner and Tim Kaine. The purpose of this document was to reinforce the need for the renewal of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA).
Among the issues noted Dr. Barrack and Mr. Baldwin was a statement regarding Virginia’s school principals : “ESEA must acknowledge the vital roles of principals and provide them with appropriate professional support to ensure high academic success for all students.” VASSP places a significant emphasis on professional development/support for Virginia’s middle and high school level administrators in a variety of ways. In particular, the summer conference provides Virginia’s secondary and middle school leaders outstanding opportunities for keeping up-to-date with what is trending in education for our Virginia students.
