It is possible that both the Democrats and Republicans will see eye-to-eye on significant education issues that will benefit students and education professionals\u00a0across the Commonwealth in 2015.<\/p>\n<p>In a recent article in the Richmond Times dispatch (January 11,2015)\u00a0the\u00a0opportunity for cooperation is a possibility. At\u00a0this point in early March before the General Assembly convenes, Governor McCauliffe and state Republican leaders &#8220;&#8230;are pushing for a revamped approach to school accredited ratings, expedited retakes on some state assessments and other tweaks to the Standards of Learning, all supported by a bipartisan committee.&#8221;\u00a0 Both Democrats and Republicans\u00a0have education items on their agendas, but this year the spirit of doing what is best for the children in the Commonwealth may really become a reality.<\/p>\n<p>Possible positions for each group:<\/p>\n<p>For Democrats:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>free breakfast and lunch in public schools<\/li>\n<li>provide training for principals and school board members in districts that persistently struggle to meet state benchmarks<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For Republicans:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>improving teacher training options<\/li>\n<li>replacing the A-F rating system<\/li>\n<li>better protection of student privacy<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It all begins tomorrow in Richmond.\u00a0 Stay tuned to learn what will (or will not ) happen!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.richmond.com\/news\/local\/education\/article_8d486db9-de4b-5efb-8fe2-f8f12822d31e.html\">http:\/\/www.richmond.com\/news\/local\/education\/article_8d486db9-de4b-5efb-8fe2-f8f12822d31e.html<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Yes, you\u00a0did read the title of this blog correctly.
