In Virginia and other states, work and college readiness are the by-words for goals and directions for our graduating seniors. When attempting to explain the criteria for success in either chosen option, the indicators for this success can be vague.
A recent blog in Education Week by Caralee Adams, “New College-Readiness Tracking System Under Study” reminds the reader that grades and student class performance alone “are not enough to determine college readiness.” She does describe a model schools can use to keep students “on track” to fulfill the achievement goals for college readiness.
Adams list three indication measures to monitor pathways to the college readiness goals:
1. Academic preparedness
2. Academic tenacity
3. College knowledge
