Thoughts on Helping You Support Your Guidance Counselor

In a recent blog in “Edutopia”, Dr. Kimberlee Rathiff reviews the issues and needs schools have assigning multiple responsibilities to guidance counselors.  If your guidance counselors have gone from being the one adult in your building that can listen and help with student concerns to being the school test coordinator, this blog is for you. Smaller school divisions commonly have this concern as they are often unable to support full time testing coordinators in all buildings.

So, what can you do to support your counselor(s)  as their intended role as counselors and not the person in charge of counting test booklets, setting up testing schedules and completing the necessary paperwork associated with this task? Dr. Rathiff provides in this blog seven ways to support your counselor(s). Some recommendations may not be feasible due to staffing arrangements, but you should find some thoughts to help provide assistance for your counselors. They will certainly appreciate your efforts.
