The Scholastic Aptitude Test, or SAT, is under revision again. The last major revision was in 2005 when a writing section was added with multiple-choice questions and a timed essay. This revised version will become the new standard in 2016, just in time for the current ninth grade students’ college admission preparation.
Among the new and depending upon whom you talk with, “improved,” SAT testing components are:
- The timed essay has been eliminated
- A return to the 1600 point scoring scale
- The vocabulary will be comprised of words widely used in college and careers
- The elimination of the deduction of a quarter-point for each wrong answer to multiple-choice questions
The SAT and its’ rival ACT continue to be the standards of academic recognition for most colleges and university applicants, although some colleges and universities are admitting undergraduates without requiring submission of either SAT or ACT scores.
