Goodbye and Thanks Dr. Wright

At some point in time, posting this blog was inevitable and it would have to be posted, but this just seems to early to do so. Dr. Patricia I. Wright, State Superintendent of Instruction for the Commonwealth of Virginia, has been leading public education in Virginia since 2008 and now will leave us for retirement.

During her tenure, Dr. Wright  has led the public schools schools in the commonwealth through difficult times and through rewarding times. Her ability and foresight to guide and steer public education in Virginia around the Common Core and to maintain the Standards of Learning as our framework for learning has been both successful and significant. Dr. Wright’s insistence that we stay the course through the SOL has produced the academic growth and successful learning opportunities for Virginia public school students.

For members of VASSP, Dr. Wright has a special connection as she meets regularly with the VASSP Board of Directors. VASSP is the only professional education board in the commonwealth having the Superintendent of Public Instruction as a participating member.

In her departure, Dr. Wright has commented  “In taking my leave, I do want to thank my co-workers at the department — both past and present — for the dedication they have shown to public education and improving the lives of young people,” Wright said in a statement. “Their efforts, along with those of countless teachers, principals and other educators, have made Virginia’s public school system the national model of excellence and innovation it is today.”

VASSP bids farewell to a special lady, exceptional educator and an extraordinary leader in public education in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
