VASSP President Comments on VASSP Membership and SOL Innovation Committee

Dr. Brian K. Matney, Principal at Landstown High School and the 2014-15 VASSP president has sent a memo to Virginia middle and high school administrators encouraging them to join VASSP.  Membership in VASSP has many benefits as Dr. Matney points out in his letter. “As a professional organization of middle and high school principals/assistant principals, we maintain a full-time lobbyist at the Capital looking out for our professional interests. VASSP members frequently testify before the Virginia Board of Education and committees of the General Assembly.”  Most recently, two members of the VASSP Board of Directors, Past President Dr. David Elena, principal of Tomahawk Creek Middle School, Chesterfield Division and Regional Director At-Large Dr. Jeff Carroll, principal of Warhill High School, Williamsburg-James City County Division addressed the secondary subcommittee of the Governor’s SOL Reform and Innovation committee.

These administrators represented middle and school administrators across the commonwealth as do all members of the VASSP Board. This is just one example of what membership in our organization does for the members of VASSP.  “As always, your fellow colleagues who are members of VASSP/NASSP would appreciate your joining us as a member.” Dr. Matney noted in his memo and encourages all Virginia high/middle school administrators.
